Mary Wood
Mary Wood
Mary Wood is a native of New York who spent many summers of her youth at the south shore beaches of Long Island. Born into a large family of thirteen, Mary watched her father, an artist by trade, paint in his studio frequently.
Observing her love for art, he encouraged her to attend a vocational art school during her high school years. She attended the same university that he had some forty years after he graduated. With her father’s encouragement, she worked as an illustrator until she married her husband Robert and they had their eldest daughter.
Through the years, having five children in all, Mary managed to keep painting, entering art shows, trying to be recognized. She has been working for the past several years as an assistant art teacher for developmentally disabled children.
Painting has always been a passion for me. Nature, especially the shores of Long Island, has always been a great inspiration. I love realism, my father was a realist. Many people ask me to paint their homes, churches, animals, and landscapes. My greatest joy is their happy responses when they see the final product.
I sell my work at a nautical shop in Freeport, NY, called the Sea Horse. The owner Millie Kaland has graciously helped me to get my work out. My printer Vladimir Belica prints my giclées at the SoHo South Art Gallery in Massapequa NY, I am thankful for their expertise.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be able reach out to others with my work and to express my love of painting.
